A Great CPD Start to 2017

Saddle Fitting For The Native Pony and Cob

MSFC CPD team member Gini Woodward presented a specialised one day hands on saddle fitting session for the Society with husband Dean earlier this month. The event was very well attended by both saddle-fitters and other equine professionals.

The workshop included a 2-hour lecture on the challenges of fitting saddles to ponies and cobs. During the afternoon hands-on sesson Gini and Dean covered pony conformation, saddle balance and movement, pony and adult saddles, girthing issues and resolutions, evaluation of the back, and signs of poor fit as well as how to check fit. Bringing equine professionals from different backgrounds made for fascinating discussion – rider posture, and even rider’s boots were included in the effort to understand and unlock the equine / saddle / rider puzzle.

The event was filmed and a 2 hour MSFC video of this day will be available soon. Watch this space for more insightful CPD presentations from the MSFC Society, dedicated to ensuring that horses and ponies get the absolute best from their saddle fitting experience.

Many  thanks to Shardeloes Farm Equestrian Centre, their staff, and their lovely ponies and horses who helped us during the day.
